Rudy Giuliani Endorses Malone for Congress
Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani has endorsed Joe Malone for Congress in the 10th District.
In his endorsement of Malone, Giuliani said, “Many candidates claim to be reformers, but Joe Malone has proven that he’s the real deal.”
In his eight years as State Treasurer, Malone reformed and modernized that office — cutting operating costs by 62%. As head of the State Lottery, he cut Lottery expenses as a percentage of gross sales from 4.4% to 2.2% — the lowest of any lottery in the country. And the performance of state pension funds went from worst in the nation to the best. In 1996 the Legislature adopted Malone’s proposal to merge the state’s two pension funds, saving $100 million over the following five years. And the savings from that reform continue today.
Giuliani elaborated by saying, “Joe Malone understands that we need a dramatic turnaround in Washington and I know he will be the catalyst for reform on Capitol Hill – to end out-of-control spending, to streamline a bloated federal bureaucracy, to repeal and replace the Democrats’ healthcare law, and to lower taxes and create jobs.”
Mayor Giuliani joins a growing list of major political figures to have endorsed Joe Malone for Congress, including Governor Bill Weld, Governor Paul Cellucci and U.S. Attorney Michael Sullivan.
Malone said, “I am truly honored to receive Rudy’s endorsement. Rudy remains one of the most effective Mayors in this nation’s history. His turnaround of New York City is an example that we need to take to Washington. When Rudy became Mayor, New York had 2,000 murders a year; when he left, it was down to 400-500. He took over with 1.1 million residents on welfare, and reduced it to 500,000. He inherited a deficit and left a surplus. It is the Giuliani level of reform that I will bring to Washington.”
Giuliani added “I’ve traveled all over the country, talking with people about the issues facing our nation. Joe Malone stands out in my mind as one of the most promising leaders in these tough times. I urge the voters of the 10th district to support Joe – to contribute, volunteer time, and vote for him.”
