Dear Friends,

Thank you for your commitment to what was a very worthy cause. We can take pride in the fact that we stood for the values that have made America great. We were endorsed by 28 of the 29 newspapers and every indication is that we were well positioned to win the general election in November.

For a number of reasons, the Republican primary proved to be an
insurmountable challenge. We have no regrets for having made the run. As I said in my speech on election night, “something good comes out of every situation” and much good will come from this campaign. We can hold our heads high because honesty, integrity, character and conservative principles were the hallmark of our candidacy.

Throughout the district and beyond, Linda and I met amazing people who provided incredible inspiration. We will always hold dear the friendships and the memories of a very special and positive six months of campaigning. Our sincere gratitude goes out to all.

God Bless,

Joe

P.S. We are enjoying spending family time once again.

Calling him “The most qualified Republican,” The Patriot Ledger has endorsed Joe Malone for Congress in the 10th District Republican Primary.

The Ledger editors also highlighted Joe’s record of reform and cutting spending as our state Treasurer, saying “At the Treasury, Malone reduced expenses by 62 percent and improved efficiency in Lottery operations and performance of the state pension system.”

Throughout the campaign, Joe has been visiting small businesses all over the South Shore and Cape Cod as part of his “Joe’s on the Job” tour. Joe has listened to small business owners and employees. Joe believes that Washington needs to better support small businesses with lower taxes and less senseless regulations. Joe knows small businesses are the backbone of our economy and creating jobs. The Ledger applauded Joe’s focus on small business, writing, “Joe Malone also has shown a firm grasp of financial issues, in particular the importance of small businesses as they relate to the current economic concerns of the region.”

In their endorsement, The Ledger made note of Joe’s unquestioned character and the fact that Joe is the candidate who has been upfront and honest with the voters. “…where Perry has been evasive in his responses to questions about the illegal strip searches of teenage girls and reluctant to take responsibility, Malone has been forthcoming,” wrote the Ledger.

In writing about Joe’s straightforward and honest approach, The Ledger wrote “It’s a demonstration of personal responsibility and character that would serve him well as a congressman.”

The Patriot Ledger endorsement comes on the heels of the endorsement from The Boston Globe and two dozen local newspapers including The Cape Codder (Brewster, Chatham, Eastham, Harwich, Orleans, Wellfleet, Truro, Provincetown), The Register (Barnstable, Dennis, Yarmouth), Harwich Oracle, Sandwich Broadsider, Falmouth Bulletin, Bourne Courier, The Provincetown Banner, The Abington Mariner, The Cohasset Mariner, The Hanover Mariner, The Hingham Journal, The Marshfield Mariner, The Norwell Mariner, The Pembroke Mariner & Reporter, The Rockland Standard, The Scituate Mariner, and the Weymouth News.

Do not forget to vote on Tuesday, September 14th!

A large group of local newspapers across the South Shore and Cape Cod have endorsed Joe Malone for Congress in the 10th District. The group of newspapers makes up the GateHouse Media New England’s South Unit.

The newspapers endorsing Joe Malone for Congress include The Cape Codder (Brewster, Chatham, Eastham, Harwich, Orleans, Wellfleet, Truro, Provincetown), The Register (Barnstable, Dennis, Yarmouth), Harwich Oracle, Sandwich Broadsider, Falmouth Bulletin, Bourne Courier, The Provincetown Banner, The Abington Mariner, The Cohasset Mariner, The Hanover Mariner, The Hingham Journal, The Marshfield Mariner, The Norwell Mariner, The Pembroke Mariner & Reporter, The Rockland Standard, The Scituate Mariner, and the Weymouth News.

In choosing to endorse Joe for Congress, the editors pointed to Joe’s retail style of campaigning as one of the factors that separates him from his opponents.

Invoking former Speaker of the House Tip O’Neil’s famous line of “All politics is local,” the newspapers wrote that Joe “has built his campaign around seeing voters face-to-face time through his “Joe’s on the Job” or “Morning Joe with Joe” campaign stops. Chances are very good you’ve seen Malone in your town during the course of the campaign.”

In addition to his retail style of campaigning, the endorsements pointed to Joe’s strong record of success as our state Treasurer. They wrote “Malone’s success in getting spending under control during his time as treasurer — reducing operating expenses by 62 percent by his calculations — bodes well for the biggest challenges ahead, which include jumpstarting the economy and getting people back to work.”

The endorsements also mentioned Joe’s independence from political insiders as well as his backbone and will to take them on and do what is right. “Malone, who has been out of the political spotlight for the last 11 years, stands to bring more of an independent mindset to Washington, despite his Republican affiliation. As state treasurer, Malone not only battled powerful Senate President Billy Bulger, but also took on fellow Republican governors during his tenure,” they wrote.

In closing, the newspapers noted that “Malone provides tenacity, experience and is politically savvy — all important qualities needed to bring about change in Washington and to make sure the myriad issues facing the 10th Congressional District are given due attention. Malone promises not only to be a champion for the district, but also vows to “shake the system up.” From what we’ve seen of the system lately — meaning government — it could use shaking.”

In their endorsement, the Globe noted the “improvements [Malone] made in overseeing the lottery and state pension funds,” writing that Joe Malone’s ”pragmatic approach delivered good results for much of his eight years as treasurer, during which time he reduced operating expenses and pushed for the cost-saving merger of two public employee pension funds.”

The Globe also pointed out that Joe’s ”political experience, combined with his welcoming personality, make him a potential bridge-builder in Congress. Such skills will be important were he to become the only Republican in the state delegation.”

“Tenth district Republicans should vote for Malone,” the Globe wrote.
